PALM SPRINGS, CA – The Conference Delegate Assembly passed Resolution 1-2025 at the 121st Annual Meeting.

 

The resolution requests that the American Board of Funeral Service Education establish a standardized curriculum for funeral-directing only education programs. It was submitted by The Conference Board of Directors on behalf of and in response to a motion of The Conference Delegate Assembly.

A total of 34 votes were cast on the proposal: 28 in favor, 6 opposed, and 1 abstention. With the passage of this resolution, The Conference commits to the following actions:

  • The Conference formally supports the creation of a standardized funeral directing-only education curriculum in collaboration with the ABFSE.
  • The Conference shall offer its support to develop and implement these standards.
  • The Conference encourages all member jurisdictions to review and align their licensing requirements where appropriate to promote consistency and professional excellence across the funeral service profession.

The adoption of this resolution ensures that future funeral directors are equipped with the necessary knowledge to best serve the public.

The 122nd Annual Meeting will be held on February 24-26, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky at the Seelbach Hilton.
