The Harvey Leavitt, III scholarship is open to first-time NBE candidates who will be eligible to take the NBE Arts and Sciences exams prior to October 15, 2025, (limit one entry per candidate). Candidates must be a graduate of, or on track to graduate prior to the scholarship expiration from, an ABFSE-accredited funeral service education program. Candidates completing a certificate program with an affiliate program are NOT eligible to apply.
Five recipients will receive one complimentary NBE registration (Arts & Sciences – a $570 value), which must be used within one year from the notification of the award.
The candidate must submit the scholarship entry form directly by 12:00 pm CDT on September 16, 2024. Please note that no refunds will be given if the recipient has already paid and/or sat for the exam prior to receiving the scholarship. The next scholarship opportunity will be available in the spring of 2025.
Harvey Hamilton Leavitt, III volunteered on The Conference’s National Board Examination Committee for twenty-two years. He was a dedicated funeral director and embalmer from Wadesboro, North Carolina where he owned and operated Leavitt Funeral Home, established in 1914, as a third-generation funeral practitioner. Harvey defined professionalism, was an eternal optimist and his volunteer spirit was catching. He will be remembered for his honesty, integrity and generosity of time and talent. In 2023 the board of directors officially named the National Board Examination Scholarship program in his memory.
